a dream dared,
a wish aired,
conversations shared,
a mission crafted,
a plan drafted,
fears broached,
the edge approached,
wings unfurled...
Or at least, it did for me.
Last weekend I visited a lovely place, several lovely places in fact, but the facade on this building for Seven Stories, archive for Children's literature, got me thinking about how ideas that seem entirely fanciful to begin with can actually take shape in the world and start journeys of transformation. For me, it's something small and personal in the shape of a sabbatical (have I mentioned that it's only two weeks to go? ;) For others it's been global cultural shifts, wonderful technologies, art that takes the breath away, cures for disease, environmental projects... so many, many much bigger, more important and broadly enriching things in the world. But they all began with what probably amounted to a fanciful thought. Probably were considered fanciful. At least by some who first heard them.
This building and what it houses is one of those ideas made real. My mad plan to jump off a secure platform into an unexplored void is another. Being prompted to think of these things anew gives me hope of success though, reminds me that dreamers have a place and that dreams do come true. Flight happens, whether literal or figurative, and it often lands us in new and delightful places.
Isn't that amazing?!
Of course, the all-important final step, is to leap...
(Fortunately, the success of my imminent flight is not dependent on my poetry skills!)

It's amazing, isn't it?
There is a beautiful Zen saying I try to remember to live by:
"Leap, and the net will appear."
Funny, it always seems to...
Thank you for reminding me that fancyness is the source for so much.
I am curious where your sabattical will lead you.
HAHA the first word to come to mind is "SPLAT"! That does not do much for your courage, does it?
Really- you will only be happier! I know it!!
LOVE
You make me laugh Linda Sue, thank you. SPLAT might well be what happens! I'm ready to take the chance though 'cause splat's better than dead behind the eyes... which is where I'm heading if I don't :)
I love your poem at the start of your post. Good luck on your journey and for the reminder to take a leap of faith!
Oh yes, Splat and splat often! Gather yourself back up again, and do it all over...It's called LIVING! No fear, my dear!!! I am sure that our brothers would like the opportunity !
LOVE xxxooo
Hi Kenda - I think it's been years (?) since my last comment - have fun on your sabbatical. I always thought that was a most intriguing word!
I'm lovin your poetry skills!!
I firming believe that sending dreams and ideas and hopes out into the universe is the first step in realizing them.
