Holding on...

...just barely.

I passed this leaf on the way to work yesterday morning and felt a certain kinship with it.

It's been a long year. And it's not quite over so there's a need to resist the buffeting winds of fatigue and hang on for a little while yet. Yesterday it felt like it took every ounce of energy. But if the leaf can do it, so can I. By rights it should have fallen weeks ago. And yet there it is - holding on. Fluttering energetically. Showing its colour still, against a grey sky.

I only have to make it through the next three weeks and then I can surrender and let go... float free and glide to rest. Two weeks of holiday are whispering my name and beckoning me on. Exhaustion is pushing from behind. I need to let go.

But not yet.

Until then, I'm the leaf.

Stamina! You are the leaf for the job! I would have been in the middle seeing all of my friends flutter down in a pile, giving up easily- I would be doing that. I hope that your hanging on tight pays off. Looking forward to a relaxed holiday!

Great photos! Hold on dear Kendalee, it is almost holiday, I hope you can then 'let loose' and relax a bit! I find doing something creative incredibly rejuvenating, I'm having such a creative blast at the moment! (It is just the thought of cleaning up afterwards that is somewhat tiring ...)

the leaf must be lonely up there alone... great metaphor. Hang on dear!

Thank you ALL! The leaf is hanging on, strengthened in resolve and cheered on by your support...

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can... No, wait a minute, wasn't that a train, not a leaf? Oh well, you get the idea.

From both the spirit of the leaf and the little engine that could - Thank you!
