We've since had several days of grey, rain and wind and this morning the branches of even this beauty were almost completely bare.
The forecast is for bitter snow-laden winds from the Arctic to blow in this weekend bringing us sub-zero temperatures and this evening I wandered through the German Market, which visits our city every year between now and Christmas Eve, and felt the wintery snap in the air.
To me the market's arrival heralds the start of the festive season and allows me to welcome in the Winter with a cup of spicy Glühwein while I watch the people browsing the stalls and the pretty carousel go 'round... Cold and dark, with warmth rising from a fragrantly steaming cup, clasped in gloved hands, seems the way the night's supposed to be for the market. It can only happen in Winter.
So today I'm happy to share the last of Autumn's leafy beauty and tomorrow we'll let it go and enjoy some more wintery delights from the market.
I hope your week continues happy and that you are having fun compiling your sensory favourites lists... Thank you to those who have already done so - reading them this evening has made me happy too!

yummo! mulled wine...i can remember tasting, oops, maybe smelling it as a child. well, i must've tasted it because memory says i liked the smell (then) better than the taste, but now, that would be a delicious treat! the first cold winds blew in this afternoon here (new mexico) today...i am sooooo excited for a bit of cold weather! xo
Oh, you are so lucky to have a German Christmas market, and with Gluehwein, too! Even if we had the market, alcohol would never be allowed in public like this over here. And somehow Christmas is not the same if you haven't strolled across a market, eaten some potato cakes with apple sauce and had a cup or two of Gluehwein ...
And here is my list, this is such a lovely idea:
Sight
* deserted beach in the winter
* a field of cornflowers or poppies
* cities at night
Sound
* Van Morrison
* rain
* cat purring
* (my husband's deep sexy voice)
Smell
* Dolce Gabbana The One
* freshly mowed grass
* anything freshly baked: bread, cookies
Taste
* Italian Tiramisu ice cream (my current addiction!)
* Aioli
* cafe latte
Touch
* holding hands
* soft white sand
* silky cat fur
Colors
* cornflower blue
* poppy red
* turquoise
The market,mulled wine, and icy cold - what a great combination! Hope you have fun and maybe get a beautiful ornament or two? (PS I've also loved reading through people's sense lists in the comments)!
