Happy Week - sensory give-away giddiness

We live on the leash of our senses. Although they enlarge us, they also limit and restrain us, but how beautifully.

Diane Ackerman - A Natural History of the Senses
1990

I'm very fortunate - something that makes me happy daily is that I experience my world through all of my senses. Do you count five or six? Or more? The empiricist in me votes for five but I can't entirely discount the sixth 'cause my intuition's also stood me in good stead over the years. Some suggest we might have an electro-magnetic sense too....

Anyway, today we'll focus on the traditional five and I'd like to celebrate the senses, and share with you a few more of my sensory favourites before we get to the give-away.  I say more because if you've been in my blogworld for even two minutes you'll probably already know of quite a few.  You can't help but've noticed, for example, that I quite like the sea... it satisfies every sense I have.

You might also have noticed that I'm not a girl who limits herself to a single favourite of anything - or even a list of ten - but I've taken a cue from orange pattern's fabulous triptych's and am going to curtail my selection here to three for each sense.

Sight:
Stargazer lilies (a bit of a cheat 'cause they smell gorgeous too), beautifully wrapped gifts, storm clouds and sunshine over wheatfields

Sound:
cheesy 80's dance music, Christmassy bells, thunder

Smell:
thatch roofing, freshly cut grass, newly printed pages

Taste:
herbal teas, vanilla pods, handmade nougat

Touch:
tango embrace, swinging high through the air, curls at the nape of a little neck

Even as I gather the images and write these favourites down, my mind is overflowing with others that also excite and delight me. Little things that daily connect me with happiness if I remember to notice them.

And another thing I love is gifts. Receiving them, of course. Who doesn't? But giving them, even more so. Few things give me more pleasure than making or selecting a special gift for someone.

And that's what I'd like to do for one you, the lovely people who stop by my little blog world and enrich my virtual sense (one we must surely be evolving?) with your comments and encouragement and company. Meeting you in this way makes me happy and I'd like to celebrate that with my first ever give-away.

To be entered into the give-away draw, please leave a comment by the end of Happy Week (Saturday 22nd November), listing 1-3 things that are favourites of each of your senses, as I have above.

Please also list your 3 favourite colours.

If your name is drawn, based on what you've told me, I will create a little sense-love package that I hope will delight all five of your senses.  And I look forward to creating something that's just 'specially for YOU!

The thought of it makes me positively giddy with happiness!

Some creative license will certainly be employed. Parcelling up 'the sound of rain on a roof' for example could prove a little tricky, so an interpretation of that sound will be included instead. The parcel won't be overly elaborate but it will definitely include something I make. Rest assured, not the taste sensation as I am a lousy cook. Probably something papery.

So, please don't be shy, get listing...  It will make me happy, happy, HAPPY! And I hope it will make you happy too.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Ohhh I can't wait to post my response to your happy senses topic!
I'm going to have to think about it carefully.
I love the little curl on nape of neck comment. So un-noticeably true

wow, it really is hard to narrow it down. and when you start thinking about it, they overlap...like, do I enjoy gelato for the taste or the touch? here are mine:

taste-pistachio gelato, coffee with sugar and cream, spice cake

touch-the heaviness of a dog lying next to me, my husband's hand on the small of my back, smooth wood furniture

sight-fairy lights, clouds, crazy colors

sound-crackling fire, ocean waves, laughter

smell-woodsmoke, jasmine, coffee

favorite colors-apple green, teal and plum (this week anyway).

this was such a fun post!

Oh dear… I think I've returned to add my sense-list too late! But I'll add it anyway, just for fun :-)

Sight: interesting/unexpected reflections, high blue mountains, spirals
Sound: purring, the all encompassing 'wall-of-sound' from amped-up guitars, rain on skylights
Smell: linseed oil, wood smoke in autumn, clean ocean air
Taste: matcha/green tea, macadamia nuts, good Scottish whisky
Touch: soft warm (living!) fur, cool breezes on hot days, a Japanese ofuro

I won't add three colours because I'm too late to be entered in the draw (and I'm finding it too hard to decide! :-)
