Frank Sinatra agreed with me on this...

"Orange is the happiest colour"

Okay, so I have a bit of a thing for felt flowers... I own one or two. And these are just the orange ones.

I love felt. I've never made it but I am always drawn to it. I love the texture. I love the rich colour. I love how beautifully it lends itself to embellishment with beadwork (which I also love).

And a girl can surely never have too many beautiful flowers to attach to an outfit? I have them in several other colours and fabrics too. Silk, cotton, leather, paper... I usually restrict myself to wearing them one by one but perhaps one day I'll attach my full rainbow collection and go out looking like a flower garden.

So, this past weekend I gave in to temptation again and ordered a new one from the talented Gifling over at Folksy. How could I resist this beauty?

I couldn't. And it's not a colour or style duplicate of the ones I already have (she rationalises). More ochre than pure orange really... Smaller than the one at the top, bigger than the one below that. Just right.

It was waiting in my postbox when I arrived home last night and I'm going to wear it to work today. It is exquisite. With violet under-petals and pink and purple beading. And it is quite orange. This will make me happy because as I said here...

And that's a good way to end a working week, isn't it?

Happy Friday!

A beautiful piece. I loved orange when I was young, and then hated it for years, but I am back to the love again! And it's funny how orange is so African too!

I am not carzy about orange, I have to admit - I think it has to do with old SA flag or maybe the fact that when I was little I got sick from an orange sucker. But I do have an orange dress. Now I must just remember to wear it ...

mcis - Oooh I wish I could crochet my own flowers! My grandmother tried in vain to teach me... Are you going to crochet the dress or is that a sewing project and you'll return to the wool flowers later? Either way... Brava!

freshly found - oh yes, orange feels very African to me too. And I think that's one of the reasons I love it!

anairam - Yuck, that old SA flag orange was not a great one, I agree! I don't like all shades of orange... And it's a colour I've grown to appreciate in recent years. Fanta orange made me sick as a child so I understand your sucker-related orange aversion. My stomach still turns when I see Fanta. I bet your orange dress looks fab though and I'd guess is like neither the old flag nor a sucker?
