...is their deliciously spicy fragrance, rich and warm in the late afternoon light, filling the room with a perfume that I catch a hint of as I open my front door. It reminds me of the love with which they were given, that lingers even though the giver is no longer here, and adds a dimension to their beauty and my enjoyment of them that is subtle, but deep.
Like the smell of the lilies, often the things that one can't see and touch are as much an important part of an experience, a person, a relationship, as those that one can. The intangible something that makes all the difference. That makes them special. I love discovering or noticing these, don't you?

Oh my I can smell them from here.
lillies are so elegant. and these are stunning images of these beauties.
And aromas are known to go deep into our rememberance and are awakened with a flood of memories by the same scent.
Oh Kenda, these are my favorites (special the white ones) and how i love their scent....mmmm.
But whenever my dad comes there's this said moment. You know, in Germany (were he's from) these flowers are only given at a funeral. And sinces he's oldfasion...but he knows how much I love them only he keeps telling me I hope never ever to be in the moment I have to buy them for you my love....
Enjoy yours as much as you possible can.
Warmest hugs Dagmar
I always snip the stamens so that the pollen does not dye everything it falls on or touches. Plus the lilies last longer, but I can see from your stunning photo that the fluffy pollen is really gorgeous, like little cushions and should be enjoyed.
Stella and I are going to art fest this April...YOU?
such abstract beauty Kenda..you made these a true work of art!!
Yes! To the intangible. Just as important as what we can see. I would argue that the things we can't see are sometimes more important. Love this post.
Lovely. I have some in a pot at our front door still going strong.
True words - and a lesson to look closely and not just at the exterior. Oh, I love the aroma of lilies - especially St Joseph's lilies!
how beautiful!! i can just...almost...smell them!!
Exquisite photos Kenda. The scents of flowers carry so many memories for me too. Do you remember the smell of mimosa blossoms (...when driving past Wattle plantations?)
I like your blog, is interesting.
Art Propelled - I do Robyn! When I spent my first year in London after varsity I worked at a merchant bank where they used to have the most beautiful flower arrangements delivered every week and I remember bursting into tears one time because the week's bouquet included some sprays of mimosa (very exotic here at the time) and the smell of it was so lovely and made me sooooo homesick. I don't think I'd realised quite how deeply evocative smell could be until then. It's one of my favourite fragrances to this day.
