Reflecting on the dance...

{click to embiggen if you'd like a closer look}

Right, so I've been spending a bit of time thinking about this blogging gig and what it means to me - what I love about it, what inspires it, how I can continue to use it to encourage my creativity and record my musings, and what I might do differently now that I've been doing it for a little while.

To begin with, encouraged and inspired by this lovely lady, I stepped away from the keyboard and put together a very quick real paper and paste mood board that I hoped would capture both the essence of the content as well as the look and feel of this little space of mine. I limited myself to an hour to do it, otherwise I knew I might get bogged down in trying to make it "just so", which was not the idea.

And what you see above is what came out. It was such fun to do (I should get sticky more often, something I used to do a lot but haven't for a long time now) and I'm actually quite satisfied and pleased (she says in a surprised voice) that it achieved the objective. I put the photograph of it into a big white bordered frame because that's one of the things I enjoy about how this space feels to me: that, within safe parameters, there's room to stretch and breathe.

The key thing I've discovered is that for the most part I'm quite happy with the way things are and do not feel compelled to make huge changes. I love that this is my very personal space with no aspirations of becoming anything else, that I still feel no pressure here to behave any differently or alter my voice, or to show up more often, and that the people who visit me are sparks of light and warmth in my day. I'm delighted and still somewhat surprised by the connections that have been made here and how some of these have developed into true and cherished friendships, whether we've met in person or not. The kindness and generosity and inspiration I find in these relationships is something I am thankful for and enriched by more than I can ever really express. I enjoy that it also gives me a place to celebrate the places and people that I do encounter and know in the real world, or a space to rant and release the things that make me frustrated or hurt. I'm also encouraged by how blogging makes me look at my offline life in a different way and has helped me use my camera to capture some of that everyday beauty. I love that it remains nothing but a pleasure for me.

Not that I'm suggesting there aren't ways to do things differently or better and as always, I am keen to hear your thoughts...

And what do you think of the bigger picture format? Too much?

Now that's done, I'm off to catch up with all the lovely spaces and people I've missed this week. See you in the ether...

Another interesting post! I love the mood board and now want to do one myself but am in the middle of a big sort out of stuff. I will keep it in mund though. I am glad you are continuing to blog-for a minute there I was worried that you had suddenly decided to stop! I have come to the conclusion that blogs are a reflection of how you are and although you can have aims for your blog, eventually yourself will out-obviously not every aspect of ourselves but the personal nature of blogging is the thing I like best. I choose what I want to put on it-what I like and what I am doing or interested in at the time and can only be continuously amazed and grateful for the interest shown! I love your blog and am so pleased to have met you through this strange and lovely world!

The mood board is great. I love how the blue and red balance each other. It's very crisp. I also can really connect to what you said about how you like your blog just the way it is. Not need to change it into something else. That is how I feel and I like it like that. Thanks for stopping by...

What a wonderful idea. Sometimes I dream of an idle afternoon of doing just this thing...cutting, pasting, letting come what may.

Perhaps my day will come...

I love that you know who you are as a blogger and that you have this beautiful space to be yourself. That is what its all about - right? No pretense, only your true voice and creative vision.

Your post really resonates with me as I begin my blogging journey, I too want to carve out my little place and be true to who I am as an artist - so thanks for being real!

hi kendalee! thanks for your lovely comment to my moodboard. I smiled while reading it... And like you I love my board so much, I put it on my computer as an - puh, how do you call that in English - wallpaper. So I think it's very cute that you put yours in a frame. When I look at your mood board it feels so light and warm - love that. And your words speak right from my heart. I overviewed my offfline-life as well because of the things I learned from Holly and other bloggers. I get so much energy from it and creativity, feels very good. So see you in class tomorrow! And have a lovely Sunday! Steffi

Your writing and blog still inspires me, that collage is such a good idea.

You have an awesome blog already, there's no need to change it in any way. <3

Such warmth in your board. I love the rich colours and the white space - suits your blog design perfectly. The frame looks great too - is it a virtual one? If so then your board should be framed in real life and hung on your wall.
I can see why you liked my colours!

I think that you must get sticky far more often. Your collage is wonderful. Your photo compilations are always so well put together and tell interesting stories, as do your words.

Your board is great and the border/frame is perfect with it! Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you liked my Hermanus posts, my parents live there at the moment and I also lived there for 2 years, indeed a special place!

Kendalee, you left such beautiful comments on my blog and I thank you.

Reading your blogs is a bit scary, so much out of my life: the Tango, "I must go down to the sea again", Sagittarius and "no aspirations of being anything or anyone else"!
I will take out scuba diving, everything else is there.

Love your style of writing. It is exceptional.

I love your collage. I did one back in 1997 before I travelled to the UK for a year. It was incredible to discover, on my return home, I unearthed my collage and realised that many things on my collage I had actually seen in real life during that year of travel. How powerful! I've been thinking of doing another one and now you have inspired me.

I love the big format.

"Too much?" Heaven's no! This is wonderful to see -- you must do this more often, Kendalee! I mean I love your photos and mosaics, but this is gutsy and messy and bits of lovely you, you, you on a page. More, more, more!

That's amazing. I could have written that myself. I love my blog bc it IS the place I can be authentically me, with no pressure.

And, I love your board. It's wonderful.

It is good to reflect and decide what you like and what to change! You do have a winning formula.
I have been blogging a little less and trying to do a little more!
The bigger picture format looks good on your blog!

Thanks for popping in;) I absolutely love what you had to say about my mood board... and can tell from your own that your dance is full of grace, lightness, and earthy delight!

I love the way you are. I think the large photos are great too. Can never have too much of a good thing. Once again you've captured and shared your thoughts so eloquently. I can only stand back and admire. I like the way your posts vary, sometimes short, sometimes long, always beautiful, always thoughtful, always worth a visit.

I love it! And I love the idea of giving yourself a limited time to create it...I really must do that more often, I get far too bogged down in the...what if? I think I love this about it the most though..."that, within safe parameters, there's room to stretch and breathe." Very insightful. I may have to adapt it to my own use!

Your blog is such a beautiful place to be. Love your framed, thoughtful piece. You are an inspiration.

I really like the wider posts and pictures! I have been toying with the idea myself for a while, but have been too lazy to figure out how. Did you just use a different template, or did it involve lots of fiddling?

This is really great - the format and your collage! You are one artistic and creative woman. I love the way your mind works.

Not only did you make a great mood/inspiration board for class, you created a work of art and inspired people with your writing.

Hi Kendalee, I really enjoyed reading your post. Wonderful. Your board is beautiful, all the pieces seem to tie perfectly with the overall aesthetics of your blog. To me, this is the visual representation of your clarity that you have so eloquently written about.

Big format big format big format. Where pictures are concerned, size does matter & I'm dying to make my blog large format. That said, what i reallt wanted to say when I hit the comment button is that - this quote you used is so beautiful that I feel like copying it down for future or designing a poster around it. And I really wished I had thought to put in "Thank you for taking care of me". I can easily say thats one of the most beautiful things I've seen in all the moodboards done.

Ditto, ditto and ditto! I love your collage - the colors, vibrancy, stretching arms, nurturing bits... like tending the field, mugs for something hot.

And yes, blogging has enriched my life, my outlook and my circle of friends also!
