Too early for bedtime?

Happiness is the absence
of striving for happiness.

It's almost 6pm on Friday evening and I arrived home about an hour ago, had a quick shower, changed into a set of lovely clean and cozy flannel pyjamas and made myself a cup of tea. All very exciting I know but exactly what was needed after a day out in the icy world that's ours right now. It's a real treat to be home at such a reasonable hour and I could literally feel my marrow thawing and my shoulders relaxing as I settled into weekend mode.

I sat and sipped my tea and considered what I might do this evening as I have no plans to meet friends or to work and nothing that's urgently demanding my attention for a few hours. The evening spread out before me, full of potential... delicious. And then I thought, "what I really feel like doing now is taking my book and going to bed." Of course, on the very next beat I dismissed the idea as daft because, honestly, who goes to bed at 5pm? Even most babies and toddlers are not in bed at this hour of their day.

But why not? Is one of the joys of being a grown-up, with no-one to answer to but myself, not precisely that I can eat ice-cream for breakfast, watch movies at 3am and yes, go to bed at 5pm if that's what I feel like doing? I'm not suggesting that any of these things are particularly healthy behaviours if they were to happen all the time, but I reckon, every now and again, a little of what's not healthy, is healthy!

So I'm sending you wishes for a great weekend - may it be filled with whatever makes you happiest. And I'm sending you these wishes from under my duvet...

Happy Friday lovely ones!

Going to bed commitment-free with the chickens is luxury (especially when you don't have to fake illness to get it.)Enjoy!!!!

especially in the winter, an early bedtime and a cup of tea can be a little heaven.

I'm so glad you did it, rather than doing things all night while thinking..I wish I had gone to bed! Makes me feel like doing that too!

Heavenly! Kendalee- break all the rules- do whatever you feel at any time you feel it- YES! I would love to go to bed at 9:00am right after I got up to get a cup of tea...read all day and not even shower. I did do that one year but was made to take a pill for it...prozac...

I we are so alike sometimes. I would love to do this too... And some days I do give in. Okay not at 6pm but really more like 8pm wich when you come think of it is also a crazy urly hour. And even my youngest one will not be in bed by then on fridaynights. Well some times the body and mind need the rest. Hope you have a great weekend.

A fun and delicious idea. I'm visiting with my mom thru the weekend. We changed into our PJ's last night at 6pm, poured wine then told tales and shared memories. It was sheer bliss - we felt like teenagers. It's those little happys that make Life grand! I hope you enjoyed every decadent moment from beneath your cozy duvet!

Your Friday sounds wonderful to me. Bed and books are very important to our well-being.

If need be, do it again tonight!

It's one of the blessings...a good book, a great tea, and nothing to do but warm yourself under the covers while you enjoy them both...never question it, just enjoy it.

Yes oh yes! What a heavenly feeling to sleep when you're tired, eat when you are hungry and to simply listen to your body.
