Brief journeys - short distance, far horizons

Today I'm flying to the Channels Islands for a little heartandsoulfood.

It's not very far to go - the journey takes only about two hours from where I live - but it feels like a million miles away in terms of pace and mood. I'm not going for long - just two days and nights - but it feels like an opportunity to pause the whirlwind I've been in for long enough to catch my breath.

It's beautiful there, salt fills the air and the sounds of the wind and the ocean sing through the night and help me sleep. It's a place where I can slow down, unwind, reach out, and turn in.

There's no real agenda for the weekend but it will no doubt include some of my favourite things:

A walk around the harbour. I love boats, 'specially boats with sails.

Building a sandcastle, weather permitting. The forecast's not good but I'm always optimistic.

Walking the cliffs and watching a sunset over the sea. Big sky and distant horizons ease my spirit.

Sociable time, simple meals shared, gentle conversation, no pressure, just ease and acceptance.

I'm thankful for this.

Happy Friday!

Oh, best, best wishes for a serene get-away. Ever since we had an exhange student from Jersey and I read (twice) The Guernsey Potato Peal Society I've put the channel islands on the top of my wish list.

It's nice something so relaxing and enjoyable to you is just a hop, skip and a jump away. I love the candle-lit lantern best...a warm symbol for a seafaring journey.

And thank you for visiting my blog...and for your encouraging words.

Oh these all sound so wonderful! Did you build the sand castle? And were the sunsets gorgeous? I have missed you over the last few weeks and am sitting down under the Christmas tree an eggnogg (with a bit of rum) in hand to pour through all that you have been up to!
