Brief journeys - retail therapy, art gallery, or both?

I finally made it to the new Anthropologie store in Regent Street on Friday last... I've been so looking forward to this as I've always loved the shops I've been into in the States. And it did not disappoint. I only managed to snap a few surreptitious photographs (especially inside, they are apparently a little sensitive about this) but caught my favourite bits...

Outside: so pretty and clever

I love the reflection of the buildings opposite too...

...and the sweet, whimsical details.

Inside: a little touch of magic

Felt sheep and chandeliers on the landings and skylights over a lush living wall (three stories high) - gorgeous!

And a Narwhal... love it.

I wandered around in there for ages oohing and aahing under my breath and tried a few lovely things on but was very restrained on the shopping front. I was on the lookout for this but it wasn't in stock, which is probably just as well. So I came away with only a small gift for a friend and something simple, deliciously soft and warm, but in practical black, for me. But next time, who knows? So many gorgeous things. So many. I could move in and live in that shop.

Quite happily.

The winter themed windows are new since my visit. Another thing I thought of about the shop(further to the email!) is that it made me want to go home and make things-not that I don't want to do that anyway but I wanted to make bigger things-a cloth tree for my bedroom for example!

I'm so jealous. I sooo wish there was an anthropologie near me. I know I can order things online, but I just love being in the store and getting a feel for it all. You provided that here very well with your photos. Like I said, jealous!

Oohhhh thank you, thank you, thank you for the inside photos. They don't have stores here but I like to look at their website for inspiration (not that I could pull of their ensembles). Oh and their shoes!!

I'm green with envy over here. Happy-for-you-envy-that-is.

Oh I really enjoyed that ... and then followed the link and promptly got lost in all the loveliness. The theme window is so whimsically wonderful. Thanks for sharing Kenda. You must have been quite overwhelmed when you first arrived, wanting to go in all directions at once.

Oh my. I have now spent approx an hour browsing through the site - dreaming... Beautiful stuff, beautiful! Actually quite inspiring too - I have seen two necklaces that I would like to try to make - one sea-shelly one (we picked up loads of stuff on the beach with Pete & Tina), and also the one with the key. I have JUST the right key for it!

Thanks for risking the wrath of the store managers to get those photos for us. Just beautiful.

Sorry your cardigan was not available!

Like so many others, I wish there was a shop like that nearby. There are just too many soulless big box stores here in the U.S.

beautiful! thank you for sharing. I love anthropologie and I love the plaid cardi you're hunting.

I've been scolded many a time for tying to take photos inside. I'm not quite sure what they think we're going to do with them. steal top-secret display ideas?

and ironically I love that man-shops-globe guy takes photos in EVERY SINGLE SHOP he visits...for anthropologie!!!

This was fun, to take the virtual tour of holiday shopping in the big city! It's the one time I miss a big city with some cold weather.
