Simple Things

canalside

Sarah alerted me to the fact that Christina is hosting a Simple Things posting today and I thought it would be fun to play along. In any form - words or pictures or both - it's an opportunity to celebrate the simple things that "make your soul sing".

Things that are making me happy so far this week include:

  • Lovely papery giveaway goodies, from lovely bloggy people. Thank you Denise and Linda Sue! More about these tomorrow....
  • A tiny, perfectly formed cupcake left on my desk by a sweet colleague from 3 floors up, with a note that says, "Sorry I missed you but I hope you enjoy this! :)". I did.
  • The tippety tap of raindrops on the window in the early hours of the morning, and the gentle click of my keyboard keys keeping harmony with them, and no other sound at all. So peaceful.
  • Modern plumbing. I do not take my powerful, piping hot shower in the morning for granted, but oh how I love it.
  • Words and the magical ways some people weave them into poetry.
  • More magic in the form of an sms text message, which flies across nearly 10 000 kilometres, lands in my phone within moments of being sent and says "I love you".
  • Email letters from friends, love them. Snail mail letters from friends, love them. Weeks that bring both, LOVE them!
  • Tahitian vanilla in a bottle. Sublime and summery scent.
  • Sweet, simple flowers on the canal bank, and the reflection of trees and summer sky in the water.
  • English strawberries. The best on the planet. At last, instead of imports from farther afield, guilt free fruit that I love, in season....

Oh the list is long... I could go on and on. Hurrah for simple things!

What's making you happy today?

Such a lovely and inspiring list! I love the colleague who brought you a cupcake, and modern plumbing--oh, yes, plumbing is a thing that we all should be grateful for! You have a really wonderful blog. Thanks so much for visiting mine, too!

What a lovely list! Simple things that make me happy right now: 1) My hair dryer - I'm using it as I'm reading blogs this morning and it creates such a warm cuddly feeling around my head. I think it helps me think better. 2) My study/studio - it is so fantastic to have a room of one's own - albeit one without a view. I just so appreciate being able to make a mess in it and close the door on it, and the rest of the house still looks neat and beautiful! 3) My two cups of coffee in the morning - I'm using Douwe Egberts at the moment 3) Alphabet stencils - the kind that one used at school to make all those nice first pages in school books - I love them and am building up a collection! 4) My uniball pen - simple, but I love him! (her?)

What a lovely list. I got lost in your wonderful words for a moment. I love that! Cupcakes and snail mail...
"Words and the magical ways some people weave them into poetry."

Poetry indeed.

Lovely list Kendalee! As usual- your posts always warm me and on a day like today- so welcomed ( it is winter today in the middle of summer!)
When it really comes down to simple - one simple thing on my list is - to breathe, having not been able to for two and a half weeks of Venice choke disease.
To take a deep breath is all I need...violet creams are a bonus!

beautiful list of things, I normally love the sound of rain but currently it is slightly spoilt by knowing we need to fix the roof before to much damage is done !.

I like the way your raindrops and keyboard are in harmony with one another.
I'm quite enjoying the rain as I sit inside looking out at it.
Funny, the song 'Rain' by Jose Feliciano is now playing on the radio.

I love making lists...journaling what is inside my head and heart. Yours is fabulous - and I loved the feeling I got reading it. Certain phrases resound with me, like "...the tippety tap of raindrops on the window in the early hours of the morning, and the gentle click of my keyboard keys keeping harmony with them." Poetry. Thank you.

I'm just now getting to all of the Simple Things lists. Isn't this the most wonderful bloggy thing to do? I just wanted to tell you hello and that I love your list. I do love snail mail, too. I think that's part of why I subscribe to so many magazines - lots of goodies in my mail box.
