I want to give prettiness, comfort and warmth

I love my pashmina shawls. I have a fairly large collection (never tooooo large, surely?) and am almost never without one. Colourful, lightweight and warm they are easy to carry anywhere. They can be used as a scarf, a wrap in lieu of a jumper or cardigan (or as well as one), to add a pop of colour and pattern to any outfit. Draped over the arm or back of a favourite reading chair, they are ideal when the chill settles in but I'm too comfy too move. When I'm travelling on a plane, or a train, and the aircon is just a tad too high, they are the perfect extra layer. Unexpectedly cold meeting rooms or conference venues are bearable because of them. They have been used as an impromptu blanket for an afternoon nap or as a comfort blanket if there's no-one around to give me a hug. I've even fashioned one with knots into a bag to carry excess goodies in when I found myself without a carrier.  Or I just have them folded and looking lovely on a shelf.

I've been wanting to do a winter-related giveaway and this weekend it occurred to me that I'd like to give away a little pashmina comfort and warmth, all wrapped up with love and prettiness.

I know that some of you are in countries where it's not winter at the moment, and some of us are in countries where winter is not going to be around for too much longer. But the thing about winter is that it always comes around again... And if you live in the tropics, or somewhere it never really gets chilly, we'll improvise and find a warm-winter version.

So, if you'd like to:
  • Leave a comment between now and midnight on the 14th of February - I will do the draw on Sunday and post the winner next Monday.
  • Please share with me something that brightens your life - something that you count on for daily prettiness, comfort or warmth.
  • Let me know what appeals to you most - plain, stripes, paisley or floral.
  • Your preferred style - modern, classic, eclectic or something else.
  • Pick a colour, any colour - one that you love and that makes your heart sing.

Even if you don't see yourself as a pashmina wearer, perhaps one day it will be just the thing you need to wrap yourself or someone you love up in. I hope you'll play...

My warmth would have to be the hubby... He radiates just enough heat not to have to turn the heater on ;P
Gorgeous! And great idea!

I have had a shawl that a friend brought back from Afghanistan 30 years ago- I have had it that long! It has traveled everywhere with me, been used as a blanket especially when I was in England and there was a shortage of blankets in the house, Iwrapped my baby on the beach, used it as a cover in Muslim countries,a cover in catholic churches, an apple carrier (and other things from the market)Additional warmth- it has been my best friend. It is a rougher grade of cashmere, finely woven, packable and perfect. It is begining to show wear, after 30 years of steady use- it is my one and only. What will I do when it dies...I just don't know! I don't think that I will be going to Afghanistan any time soon for another..I am wrapped in it at this very moment, it is cold and raining outside but I am cosy, comfortable and comforted.
My shawl is woven of many colours, primarily fawn and warm colours. I love all colours- I am sort of beige so nothing clashes with my me-ness. I can understand you wanting to share what you have found to be so wonderful about pashmina shawls. Everyone should have at least ONE! They are the BEST invention!

I gave my one and only pashmina to a friend for Christmas, it was just calling out to her. Your collection looks beautiful, I love all those colors! My favorite would be turquoise or a hint of rose/pink. Or maybe red with stripes. Mmmm. I think the secret of a pashmina is that it is always beautiful, no matter what its pattern or color! Such a lovely idea, Kenda :)

what a great way to share a bit of you, so personal and warm. the thing that brightens my every day is visiting my friends in the land of blog, like you. I am always amazed at the images and stories. and always feel better for visiting.

I'm partial to the paisley or floral and for some reason today I can't narrow down a favorite color, but I like bright and deep tones.

What a fun, generous giveaway!
My puppy makes me smile everyday. I have no idea what I'd do without her softness.

I am not a picky person... I love every color.

p.p.p.s. I'm really not trying to flood the ballot box here...I just have extremely poor impulse control today. despite my obnoxious multiple comments, I only expect to be counted once for the giveaway. I meant to mention this on my last comment, but hit 'publish' before I was finished.

What a lovely giveaway - pashminas are fantastic, and these look absolutely stylish and lovely. I am NOT entering the giveaway though - it wouldn't be fair, as I've just received my sense-box of deliciousness from kendalee - but I wish all participants good luck!! x Anairam

oh, i'd love to be a pashmina wearer, though i'm not one now, its never to late to change!

i think i might be an eclectic, blue, floral type, but i'm sure i'd try just about anything!

and my day brightener...one cup of something warm and lovely every morning and perhaps again in the late afternoon when a chill has settled in.

and smiles~ genuine ones that just shine from the heart.

that's two day brighteners, but i couldn't pick just one! trying to keep my eyes open for as many as i can find these days!

I love the photo that accompanies this post. The folded and stacked pashminas create a beautifully vibrant stripey pattern. And your giveaway idea is wonderfully warming and generous!

So…
For daily brightening, regardless of how cold, grey or bleak the weather is, I can rely on the views from our windows - in one direction it's all jumbled, 'medieval', mellow red-tiled rooftops and in the other there are a couple of different church spires that give the cityscape a magical quality (think the Disney logo without the cheese :). We can also see De Poezenboot (a canal boathouse sanctuary for stray and lost cats) and I love to watch the cats sunning themselves (assuming there's some sun!) on its deck, and holding 'conversations' with the ducks, gulls, swans and other water birds that pass on the canal. The birds are safe in the water so they're happy to draw close for a 'stop 'n chat' and the usually antagonistic cat/bird dynamic seems to dissolve (there is also a fence around the deck - to stop the cats from falling in the water - but I don't know if birds, or cats!, necessarily understand the concept of fences :)

As to pattern, style and colour: I like stripes a lot, but I'm also a fan of any intricately linked kind of pattern (think William Morris/Liberty, Japanese pattern designs, Celtic etc.). I guess to 'style' I'd have to say eclectic (I'd like to think modern or classic… but who am I trying to kid!). I love all colours in nature so find it very hard to pick a single colour when called upon to do so… today a deep tealy-blue comes to mind.

Sorry for the excessively long comment, and thanks for the chance to participate in your winter giveaway!

Kendalee, since I was lucky enough to win Nadia's gorgeous spoon bracelet, I'm going to give someone else a shot here. What a fun contest though! Great idea.

what a lovely idea!

seeing the wonderful photos and stories of women bloggers warms me and soothes my spirit on a daily basis.

i love pashminas, too, and my favorites are orange & paisley, but i already have two (they're almost identical, so i identify with your urge to collect!). i'd love to own some cooler colors (light blue, purple) and some stripes. i can just picture one paired with a white t-shirt.

where i live the brief winter will soon be over, but cool sea breezes will blow for months to come, rising up in the evening and causing just enough of a shudder to warrant a pashmina.

ps. i always wear one when i fly.
