Number One - Toast & Honey
Bread products are my weakness (or one of them) and few things are more comforting than toast - even the smell makes me feel happy. And when one combines toast with butter and honey... delicious daily comfort.
Number Two - Notebooks
I am a compulsive writer. Or jotter. A note-maker really. And I love nothing more than having pretty notebooks to write things down in. For years and years I wrote in simple school exercise type books and they served the purpose very well. I would sometimes collage the covers but most often they just stayed plain. And then I was gifted with a beautiful, bound notebook. And then another. Books that were sewn and bound in a decorative cover. Books with a little heft and a lot of prettiness. And that wonderful new book smell.
For a long time I couldn't bring myself to actually write in them - they just seemed too lovely to spoil with my little scribblings. And then I did. And it cannot be denied that writing in a nice notebook, like writing with a nice pen, just enhances the experience for me. I love it.
These beauties from paperblanks are some of my current favourites. Each one has a small momento pouch in the back cover too... perfect.
Number Three - Yogi Tea
George Orwell once wrote that a good cup of tea has the ability to make one feel "...a little wiser, braver and more optimistic..."
Several cups a day are the very least I need to get through. And these always do the trick. I think I'm a little bit addicted.
Number Four - Fresh Flowers
I live in a city centre, in an apartment with no garden. And I do not have a green thumb - pot plants don't do well under my care. So rather than inflict cruelty on green things, I have fresh flowers. Once a week I treat myself to a bunch - nothing too elaborate but it brings a little bit of nature and a lot of joy into my day. Every day.
Number Five - Friends and Family
Many far away, some I've never even met in person, but all essential to my everyday well-being.
And that's it. Five things I love every day. Not terribly unusual or exciting I'm afraid but true. Simple pleasures that never fail to make me happier.
I'd love to see some of your lists. If you fancy having a go, leave a comment so we know to come and find it, and consider yourself tagged...
Hope you're having a lovely weekend!

your five things make me happy! I share your love of toast, yogi tea and fresh flowers. it's so important for us to really see how these ordinary things have so much power.
you know I love making a list, so I'll play along this week with 5 daily things. this is what I love about making these lists: it forces me to focus on how much I have and what really is important. thanks!
You have narrowed it down very well..only five things! That is a challenge! Yes, toast tea and honey, paper all faves! Your list resonates with me entirely.
How 'bout five things that are annoying? Or scary- like Santa...lists like that would be more telling psychologically wouldn't you think? And amusing!
Oh my goodness, I totally do the same thing with really pretty notebooks. I don't want to ruin them with my notes! Ah, that is pretty funny. Boy warm crunchy toast sounds preettttty darn good. Have you ever tried Texas toast or Japanese toast?
They're like 3cm thick and when yuo toast it the outside is crunchy but the inside stay heavenly soft. Ohhhh my goodness, I'm making myself hungry !
A lovely list! My 5 things that I love every day would be:
1)le 'Usband
2) freshly brewed coffee
3) everything about the sea (its sound, how it looks, how it smells, how it feels)
4) chocolate in all its forms
5) books & bookshops
yogi tea - the best tea ever! =) Merry xmas!
I share the love for simple things!
Your pretty journaling books have reminded me that I have some stashed- too good to mark up, you understand...I think that begining the new year I will do just that having been inspired by you and Anairam, and now gone smoke and ochre!Bronwyn's journals were astounding!
Have a Happy Christmas, Dearest !!
Kendalee I am soaking up the West Coast sunshine for you whilst I read this. It is special to connect with someone who is able to relate and on that point ditto for four out your five items. I have never drunken yogi tea but as for the rest, they rank amongst my top one as well : )
lisa - yay! You're so right, sometimes there's nothing like a list to focus the mind on what matters - I look forward to seeing yours...
Linda Sue - true, scary or annoying would probably be more revealing of all sorts... I'll give it some thought. ;)
I'm SOOOO glad to hear you're going to do some visual journalling in the new year. I hope you'll love it - I do, although I'm nowhere near as prolific as Anairam and Bronwyn, whose pages are definitely an inspiration!!!
MK - never tried those but they sound like they'd be my sort of thing for sure! Pretty much any bready product toasted does it for me :)
Anairam - great list! I'm so envious that you have the sea on your daily list. Oh I long for the sea. Really must do something about that soon...
Ida - Definitely! Merry Xmas to you too :)
Karina - really nothing to beat the simple things, is there? Simple but true.
Claire - Oh thank you!!! I hope you're having a wonderful time - so much soulfood to be had in that place! If you're a tea drinker, I think you'd enjoy yogi teas - they're yummy and so beautifully packaged too, which always adds a little something special for me.
love your blog Kendalee. reading it makes me happy every day
