Cool Spooky PicsSamhain is not only a time for honouring the seasonal cycles - the end of summer and the beginning of winter - but also the cycles of life and death. A time to remember loved ones who have passed away and to celebrate the birth of new people in our lives.
It also marks the ancient Celtic New Year, so is thought to be a time for considering endings in general. And new beginnings. For "reflecting on mortality, and also on the passing of relationships, jobs and other significant changes in life. A time for taking stock of the past and coming to terms with it, in order to move on and look forward to the future"
Okay, I can do that.
However you're marking the occasion, I hope you have a good one!
Happy Friday!

Have learnt something now! Since seeing a friend's Mexican offrenda some years ago, I make one every year for Dia de los Muertos - to celebrate the lives of my mom and dad.

anairam - I like this idea too. Collections of meaningful things and these rituals can give some comfort can't they? I find something really appealing about shrines (especially personal shrines) although I'm not at all religious. Weird, I know.
nadia and lisa - thank you both! :D
fifi - I'm thrilled that you like the Sri Lanka idea, thank you! I'll put some links and pictures together this week and send them off to you...
