P finds the coolest stuff. Check this out too - nothing to do with wallpaper or decorating but it's SO cute. Unless you dislike rodents. In which case, don't look.
About nine months ago a guest took up residence in my guest room, which also doubles as my creative space (or my playroom). It has been a pleasure having her to stay but I must admit that I do look forward to having the space back when she leaves next week to pick up her studies elsewhere.

I've missed having somewhere that I can create and leave my projects in progress (aka The Mess) and as a result have not played as much. And I've missed having somewhere that I can surround myself with all the things that make me happy but that the rest of the household doesn't necessarily appreciate - like my inspiration boards and my stash.

I like to change things up a bit and I'm thinking that in honour of the move back into the room, I might do a little cosmetic redecorating.
Any thoughts?
I LOVE Geninne's work and this one made me think of my global family. It is so beautiful. This hastily snapped and slightly fuzzy photograph doesn't really do it justice at all but it is going to look gorgeous when I frame and hang it.
When the space was last mine, it looked like this:

There are two inspirational looks that I've been considering...
I'm really torn between stripping out some of the colour and going for a more neutral, blank-canvas approach:

Or adding a lot more in, particularly orange, which I love and believe is a creatively stimulating colour but I am a little nervous will not be very appealing to future overnight guests:

Or maybe I should just stick with what I have.
Any thoughts?
Whichever way I go with this, I'm definitely going to enjoy including my new print in the scheme. It arrived in the post on Friday - beautifully packaged with hugs - all the way from Mexico.

I can't wait until she adds a few more of her ocean inspired prints to her Etsy shop. I have the perfect spot in mind for one or two of those.

The neutral scheme getrs my vote, but include some bright orange scatters or highlights for a while!
You must be looking forward to getting your creative space back! I usually prefer the neutral look, but I must say that the orange one looks very warm and cozy, especially now that you're moving into winter ... I don't think guests would mind at all!
Love how it is now...neutral would only stay neutral until you got to work I'm reckoning...I always begin with best intentions of simplicity...my wild side takes over and BOOM color and texture everytwhere! Neutral and minimal is said to be good for the creative process, I wouldn't know.
freshly found - I think you're right. Neutral with colourful accents is probably the way to go... Much like it was before but this time with an orange mood. Orange walls all 'round might be a bit much!
anairam - I think that's exactly why I'm drawn to the orange scheme right now - warm and cozy for winter! I might go for some snuggly orange blankets, cushions and candles or something, rather than slap paint on the walls though. Or maybe I'll just paint one wall... A bit too 80s?
linda sue - oh I can so relate! I'm often drawn to a minimalist look - even if it's just in the palette - but I'm not truly cut out for minimalism and restraint. I think my creative heart is stimulated and satisfied by colour and texture too!
i'm going through the same decision with my house - i think color is always easier in the end. good luck!

My apartment is full of crazy color and chaos, so I long for creamy white walls or cool grays with pops of color. I think you should buy Printing By Hand by Lena Corwin and make your own wallpaper - you can replicate the birds fairly easily on one section of your wall by hand blocking...
Of course I say this, own the book, and haven't gotten up off my ass to do any such thing.
p, thank you for the book reference - I'll definitely check it out. I really liked those birds. Although I too own dozens of books already, with great 'must do' ideas, that have yet to actually materialise... I'm so easily distracted!
