Faraway Family

Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.
Jane Howard

It's true for me. I do. And today my thoughts are with mine.

I believe that family includes people you are related to as well as those who, over the course of a lifetime, you choose and who choose you back. I have a great family and I love them all to bits and also know that I am loved, which is more than some people can say. I'm always grateful for this. But right now they are all very far away.

We're an independent crowd but being spread across the globe can be challenging for even the strongest relationships. Especially when some members of the clan are in need of a little extra support, as inevitably happens sometimes.

It's at times like this that I love the technology we have, and how it allows us to keep in touch so immediately. It's still not quite as good as being in the same space though, is it? Being able to get together, play with the children, give someone a real hug, and share a cup of tea... it's these simple everyday interactions that I miss. And just being able to hang out.

I'd like to be hanging out at the waterhole with my family today. All of them, from everywhere.

As I can't be, I'm sending my love through the ether...

I think that your through-the-ether love is very much appreciated by your entire family (also the hangers-on!)

Thank you! :) Plenty of ether-borne love to give anairam, and I see no hangers-on here, only jen-yew-ine extended family of the chosen kind!

Being one of the "obligatory faraway family", I am missing my beautiful niece really badly - write soon, please? Or is this the only way I can contact you - which is great, by the way! You are so creative! I wish you would write a book.... "Diaries of the Dance" comes to mind. Love you, L
