While I don't intend to start a political debate here, I do want to say how much I LOVE a good debate (political or otherwise). Or... a well informed, well expressed, rant.
Debate is better - for me, conversation is almost always better than just the sound of my own voice - and I know that strictly speaking there isn't a definition of ranting that allows for it to be a good thing but I would like to argue this. Because, oh, we cannot ignore the cathartic nature of a good rant! Sometimes a rant will become a debate (if anyone chooses to engage with the ranter) but often it's just about getting it out there, whether someone engages or not. Having your say, saying your piece, getting it off your chest... Ranting involves a degree of passion that I find quite appealing and I often enjoy hearing or reading other people's passionate outpourings - even if I don't agree with what they are saying.
But perhaps this is just a way of excusing my own rantantics. I've been known to jump on a soapbox once in a while, or fire off a strongly worded letter... Oh yeah! And while I'd like to believe I'm always presenting a rational (if passionate) and well argued case, which might actually engage the rantee/s and turn it into a debate, I cannot describe (or deny) the satisfaction I've found in just being able to vent occasionally. So I will always defend the right to rant.
Anyway, before I get too caught up in ranting about ranting.... Today, while catching up on one of my very favourite writer's blogs, I came across a humdinger. Well informed, well written (as is everything Laini Taylor writes) and political. You might want to check it out - especially if you have any interest in what's been going on with the US presidential nominations and the upcoming elections, Obama vs. McCain. Or you just feel like reading a really good rant.
And if you do, be sure to read the comments too... Rant on Laini!

It is a great rant! Thanks for the link. I love a good debate too, but unfortunately I'm not able to express my opinions as eloquently as you and your fellow bloggers are :(
Yes, thanks for the link, Kendalee! She writes really well on the subject - I can almost feel my blood pressure rising with hers! I can only pray (but to whom?) that the Republicans don't win the election - the world really cannot afford that - and what happens in the USA affects every one of us!
Bruce - glad you enjoyed the rant :o) Laini really is very eloquent isn't she? I can only aspire to writing as well as she does! It's all about finding your "thing" I think for expression (and practising it) and perhaps blogging is not your best medium for debate but I'm sure in person you make your case very well!
Anairam - I so agree! And in fact that's the very point I made in response to Laini's post. We can't, any of us, afford to ignore what goes on in the USA. It affects us all. So I too am hoping that McCain's Republican party doesn't win... Bush's administration has done enough damage!
