Brief journeys - sea nymph in the city

I was working in Cardiff yesterday.

I travel there fairly regularly and I have yet to be in the city when it does not rain. Sometimes it's just lightly or sporadically but it's without fail. I love rain. Sometimes. It's just one of many weather moods and I like that. But seriously, what are the chances? Twenty-odd visits (at least) over the course of the last year... twenty rainy days. I have never seen it under a blue sky.

I had wondered if my colleagues might begin to dread my arrival, if only as a forecast of grey skies and showers. Maybe it's something about our chemistry? Cardiff + me = rain. And I said as much this time. I wanted to establish that it was not deliberate. One just can't control that kind of chemistry. I was hastily reassured that it rains a lot in Cardiff. Whether I am there or not.

Phew, that's a relief.

Now I look forward to seeing it on a sunny day. One day.

Something else I've noticed about Cardiff is that it's a city rich in architectural gems and it's a city full of art in public places. Unlike the apparently constant rain, this is something I love about it.

I'll take pictures for future posts of some of it's more unusual buildings but for today I just wanted to share with you this beautiful statue of a sea nymph that I pass on my way to the office. She always makes me smile. Even if it's raining.

I love your pictures - especially the first one. Stunning! It looks like she is going to take to the air with the gull. Is it a seagull? Anyway, lovely! (And today it is raining in another C-city as well!)

Thank you! I think it is a seagull, Anairam. Or maybe a tern? Well, a seabird of some kind, definitely. She is standing on a wave but does look like she is going to take flight. The pictures can't really do it justice.
