Brief journeys - a moment on the rails

The gloom of the world is but a shadow. Behind it, yet within our reach, is joy.
There is radiance and glory in the darkness, could we but see; and to see,
we have only to look....
Fra Giovanni Giocondo
(c.1435–1515)

The grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls.
John Muir
(1838-1914)

We don't remember days; we remember moments.
Cesare Pavese
(1908-1950)

A moment on the move, at dawn, passing Durham cathedral, snapped through a grimy train window with my phone... I looked up briefly from what I was reading and it was so lovely, it made me draw breath.

What a week of strange, sad, uncomfortable, funny, beautiful moments. Some of them will be remembered for a while, some forever, most hardly any time at all. A journey of moments... not all of them equal. I'm trying harder to notice the moments, to be in the moment, and to mark more consciously those to hold on to. And then letting the rest go.

I agree and am going to try to do the same! It is the moments that matter, however brief. love you, xxx

Interesting- when you look back on your life and weed out the highly charged emotional moments, what comes to mind- are usually the pivotal moments. The ones that speak directly to your very core. They have a vivid dreamlike quality.

I love that view but have never actually got out of the train at Durham! I really must one day. Hope this week has some good moments for you Kenda. x

I am trying to do that as well. Embrace the moment. Feel the moment. Be here now! Feel the emotions of the moment no matter what those emotions are.

It takes a lot of practice I've discovered! I like to stay busy and avoid too many emotions.

Hoping you have safe and happy travels!! Suzy

When I lived in London , when it was aforable, I would hop onto a train not knowing where I might end up and ride all day sometimes getting out to wander. mindless adventure...back in the day...

Me too. I'm working on being in the moment and letting some go. Some are just not worth hanging on to and I think that is finally beginning to sink in for me.

I always love the quotes you give us.
