Red is the ultimate cure for sadness

Sparkle and comfort at home, in red. Day one of colour week.
Red, I've discovered, is the accent colour that links my room's schemes together. Paired with turquoise, or orange, or purple (my three favourite colours), deep and subtle or bold and bright - radiant red is everywhere in my home. In China and parts of India and Africa red is the colour of celebration, symbolising good luck, but in most Western cultures it's associated with danger and masculinity, neither of which seem especially appropriate for my space. I don't know why I'm drawn to it exactly and I know it's not for everyone as a decor choice but, no matter what the shade, it's the colour of strength and fire at the core of my heart and always lifts my spirits.
There was plenty to choose from but yesterday I particularly noticed these bits of brightness as I went about my day...
~ a fragile bauble catching the sunlight and beautiful butterflies from a friend dancing in its glow - I see these first as I open my eyes after my Sunday nap, and every day when I wake.
~ a hand-blown lantern in my living room reminds me every time I pass it of the alluring ancient city where I bought it - and the special time spent there, with three very special people. Good memories.
~ essential kitchen appliances for the production of tea and toast, two of my comfort staples - shiny and new in a cherry hue.
~ a pretty dishcloth makes doing the dishes just that teensy bit more appealing - and helps keep the sink empty, which is how I prefer it.
~ glistening and glittery gifts from loved ones - these casting soft red reflections - surround me and make me smile and sparkle on the inside too...
And so the colour fun begins... for me it's all about home comfort and heart sparkle and I can't wait to check out this evening how my fellow colour week players and our lovely hostess have found and interpreted red in their worlds. It's bound to be a treat.
Happy, vibrant and radiant red Monday to you!

Glad your here... it wouldn't be the same without you!LN
Beautiful! Love that your home is tied together with red - such a warm, rich, happy hue.
Thank you for letting me know about color week - I almost missed it!
I'm enjoying the red thread of brightness meandering through your home. In my first home as a married woman I wanted a red accessorized kitchen and my mom gave us a red fridge as a wedding gift. It was the talk of the town and even now when I bump into old friends they always mention the red fridge.
I enjoyed your visual and word interpretation of the colour red! I love your butterfly mobile, what a lovely thing to wake up to :)
Bring on blue, tomorrow? Yay!
yay! your reds are beautiful!!! i especially love the spectacular red glass ball hanging next to those fabulous butterflies.

Lovely reds Kenda! There is quite a lot of red in my home too-kind of accidentally as we inherited lots of lovely persian rugs from Andy's Dad over the years. They bring such a cosy warmth. I look forward to the rest of your colour week posts!
Wonderful post on reds! The pictures are beautiful and I love your story about the meaning of the color red in different cultures. What lovely reds you have in your home.
I've missed reading your posts, dear. Busy times, busy times. BUT this red post captured my heart and imagination, as most of your posts do. Red is my favorite color hands down. This is lovely, dearie.

How marvelous to see these snippets of your new space. I think sometimes red gets a bad reputation but it is so rich. I love red accents, in all the different shades. Have a lovely week!! xo – g
