In a sense, each of us is an island. In another sense, however, we are all one. For though islands appear separate, and may even be situated at great distances from one another, they are only extrusions of the same planet.

How I wish that somewhere there existed an island for those who are wise and of good will.

Strive to have friends, for life without friends is like life on a desert island... to find one real friend in a lifetime is good fortune; to keep him is a blessing.

You know I'm a bit fixated on islands and I'm thinking somewhere like this might be nice for a weekend getaway with friends - surrounded by blue sky, blue ocean, warm air; close enough to the mainland that we could swim or boat across and stock up easily on supplies but small and remote enough that only the people we wanted along would fit.... Sounds like heaven to me. I'd love for you to join me.
Honestly, I'm not heading anywhere except virtually right now and I know this has become a bit of a refrain of late (and I apologise for that) but, oh boy, am I glad it's the weekend! I arrived home late last night after travelling away and collapsed. Work has filled my horizon for weeks on end, weekends included, and from Monday it will again for a while. I know this doesn't make for particularly exciting sharing and I believe I've even referred to my breakfast twice in the past fortnight (isn't that the ultimate blogging no-no, talking about what one had for breakfast?). Sadly my breakfasts have been teeny islands of enjoyment in my days of late so they're about the sum of the good stuff I've had to share. I've also really missed giving you and your goings-on the attention they deserve. Again, I'm sorry about that.
But... I have the next two days of solitude and rest to look forward to and I am going to create an island of my own - locking the door of my apartment and hiding out with this book to dip into, my laptop and some silence. Bliss. You are the only ones I'll invite in and I look forward to visiting with you.
I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead, wherever you are and whatever you're up to!
And now I'm off to have some breakfast... Honey nut crunch with yoghurt and blueberries today I think.
♥
p.s. this picture was taken a while ago on a wonderful holiday I spent with my sister in the Caribbean, just looking at it makes me happy with the memories.

I love these quotes and I can quite see the appeal of an island too. I will happily join you on your island! I hope you do get a lovely rest this weekend and enjoy your book-it sounds fascinating.
I was just eating y breakfast as I read your post-toast with lemon and lime marmalade and coffee-delicious! Now Tiger has come along and sat on the mouse so I think she wants attention! Take care. x
Tiger wrote the y-but I don't know what she was trying to say!
we went out to a cafe by the beach for breakfast today, and on a whim decided to take one of the ferries out to a neighbouoring island afterwards, rather than going back home.
spent a lovely morning exploring the island, and especially the beach (should really have taken our swimming things with us!) before heading back home again.
enjoy your weekend.
So glad you are having a peaceful weekend...I know you need it!
I am at "Island Rock" today but will happily join you on your Island getaway. I have my sun-screen,hat and a good book. Will bring a picnic lunch and some good wine too!
As always xxoo
oh, I have been looking forward to my alone peaceful week-end too ! I am sure you are delighting in yours ! Thank for this visual relaxation of white soft sand and turquoise warm sea, bliss :)
I like knowing what you had for breakfast. it makes me feel like I'm across the table from you with a cup of coffee.
The book sounds intriguing and entertaining, maybe not as much as an island trippy day...sun is gone, rain has come it is a dark, cold day. Damn, girl, you just work all of the time! You need to stop this nonsense immediately!
I think that Sarah's kitty was asking "Y?"
Hi Kenda,
That island sounds very inviting. I wish I could take a peep in at the book, I'm quite intrigued by it.
Let me know if you have a less hectic time and try some of my recommendations.
Enjoy your weekend.
Haha to Linda Sue's comment about Sarah's kittie's "Y?" And your island photo is (sigh) so delightful and delicious. My toes are crying for freedom in some squeaky white sand.
Your breakfast sounds so much better that the standard one for the guys around here--bacon just doesn't get it for me and the smell lingers for the rest of the day.
Wishing you a peaceful weekend and some shopping for tickets to blue water.
oh yes let's go.
calvin and i are leaving for grenada soon. i cannot wait. i really need some sun. i can feel it in my bones.
i hope that you are soaking up the bliss.
much love,
c
I would love to join you on that island! Hope you are having a lovely restful weekend xx
I instantly relax just looking at this island. It's funny you post this Kenda because just this past week I was thinking about how a tropical vacation magically melts stress away...immediately. I'm not just talking about leaving the reports and conflicts behind. I'm talking about "forgetting everyone's name" kind of forgetting. Over and over I've said to myself "it's JUST a job". And it is. We should be able to achieve the "tropical island effect" without even hopping on plane, don't you think? I'm sure people accomplish this...?
Hi Kenda,
Yes it's the grey and nothing but grey that gets a bit much. I've just been saying to Sarah (Circles of rain) that I think I was spoiled in Sweden. I just loved the snow and ice there, and when the sun came out and it all sparkled, well it was just heaven. So this winter has been quite a contrast. Also there are very few flowers around. We have a clump of snowdrops and there's another under a tree at the bottom of the road and that is all. But I'm sure it will all change soon enough.
Wishing you a good week.
Ohh and of course I know you like butterflies but I didn't know you liked red. In fact when I see butterflies now I think of you.
