Balancing act - a reflective retrospective

Yesterday started bright and sunny but it turned grey and heavy and then at about three o'clock snow swirled down in big feathery flakes and dusted everything pretty. I know that some parts of the northern hemisphere are having much more snow than they'd like and others less than they need but this was just the right amount. Not enough to stop things moving but quite enough to make it look lovely.

I noticed that the evening light is starting to last fractionally longer and although it was already pretty gloomy when I walked home and not the best for taking photographs, this is what the acrobatic statue on the canalside looked like, all dressed in white.  I actually like how it turned out. And the combination of not walking in the pitch dark, and the fluffy whiteness, really made me feel better.

As I wandered along I was thinking about how this walk, brief as it is, always has an impact on my day. Sometimes it reflects my mood and sometimes it lifts my mood. It never leaves me unmoved.

I looked back over a few of my previous posts and I was struck by how some of the walks I've recorded capture these reflective moments and the changing seasons - the everyday ramblings, routines and rhythms of my life. I like that.

This statue is something I especially enjoy seeing and respond to and depending on how my day, week, or month is going it reflects for me either joyful exuberance, the achievement of perfect balance, or the courage and staying power it takes to stay upright no matter what the universal elements fling at one. It's always beautiful.

I hope you've had a good week so far and, like me, are looking forward to the weekend...

Brrr....that statue looks chilly. Lovely photo. One of the wonderful things about your blog is the insight I get into your world and where you cross your paths during the day. It makes me feel like I am there. It's even better than a hand written letter or a postcard. A happy sigh......

Sometimes we all just need a break, and I find walking time to be very reflective. Especially long walks alone :)

I love the photograph!

Yes, yes. A few more moments of daylight every day, even when the sun is hiding. And, as your photo illustrates, the hazy shades of winter give a soft edge to everything. The snow on the lady looks more like fleece that something cold.

The statue ,to me, looks as though she/he is diving through the surf, covered in sea foam off the coast of Jutland in northern light, but he she is not cold because he she lives in the sea. Here comes the sun- the light- buds- so early- the plum is blossoming!

I like your three interpretations of the sculpture, Kendalee - all so different, yet completely relevant and meaningful. You think deeply about things - that is a gift and a skill. The makings of a writer...

Ohww love this statue. If only I could see it in the summer time looking at it with a nice cool drink in my hand.
Happy weekend Kenda.

yes, I like how the statue can represent so many things like you said power and grace and I also like the way one of her hand goes toward earth and the other towards the sky ... as we are, part of the universe and I really feel this sense of belonging and grounding when going for walks ... beautiful photo and words, thank you :)

Funny, I posted not long ago about noticing that the days are getting a bit longer as well...the lengthening of days gives me hope that soon the light will win over the dark again...that the snow will leave and the buds begin to swell and burst...and that soon enough we'll be complaining about the heat rather than the cold...as you said, the rhythms of life, constantly changing, ebbing, always moving forward, as life does...this is good. Change is good...balance is good...finding a way to make change and balance work in harmony...the tricky part...you do it well.

Balance. Such a simple word and concept, seems so easy. But why is it so hard sometimes?

I'm so glad you find your center during your walks and I love that you are being blessed with snow. Big bright flakes while the night descends - I too love it. Like a fluffy blanket.
