As far as my eye can see...

Just looking up from my laptop at the room around me, and my eye catches sight of a cluster of little things that make me smile:

  • Beautiful pink roses from a friend ~ such an exquisite colour, such a sweet thought
  • A pinboard of lovely images and pretty goodies ~ they speak to me every day of people and places I love all around the world
  • One of my favourite scented candles burning ~ smells like a fresh, sunny day with a touch of vanilla, and I love the glow in the red glass
  • A magical glittery fairy globe ~ a gift from my sister some years ago, which never fails to raise a smile with its swirly loveliness and to bring her to mind
  • New glasses with orange frames ~ I wore my last pair with one broken ear thingie for over a year, so these make me happy because they're comfy, and they're orange
  • A tiny yellow shell ~ souvenir of a summery walk on a beach, with friends, eating ice-cream, laughing and breathing salt air, a very happy moment

This week I've been asked to trust what I cannot see, to close my eyes, point my camera at the world and then consider my response to the images I've captured. It's been an interesting exercise and I realise that on a daily basis I'm very visually engaged with my world - most inspired, uplifted, emotionally triggered by what I see. And the outside world is not always a pretty place. Ugly makes me unhappy. Jarring makes me hurt. Grey wears down my heart's reserve.

Some days I wish I could just stay here, with these things that make me happy, but the outside world awaits. So I lift my eyes to the window, and I see the sun is shining today. That makes it easier to step out...

It all comes down to the small things doesn't it .... and appreciating the moment. Your photo of the roses is so lovely I swear I could smell them for a second. Hope the sun holds for the weekend.

"trust what you can not see" at first cracked me up - remembering the absurdity of a blind tourist in venice taking pictures with his point and shoot camera while clicking along with his cane...Now I sort of get it...Often my camera has captured ,by accident, some shot of the floor sideways and I find it intriguing...
People who surround themselves with beauty are truly the most beautiful- you're it!

Trying to catch up after our trip, and my return to work, I really needed the message you have given everyone today. Just the ticket for a reminder to slow down and look around..and trust.

Thank you for your beautiful images, and your beautiful thoughts.

Your surroundings are so beautiful! It's good to live in an aesthetically pleasing environment. If I had to take a look around at my surroundings now....ok I need to tidy up first!

You write so beautifully, it inspires me to look at the things around me! (Unfortunately what I see at the moment is a very untidy desk, clippings all over the place, dictionaries, a hair brush - I am drying my hair as I read my blogs this morning, stones, a pile of magazines, some bubble wrap, a memory stick, a lip ice, a postcard protesting VAT on books which I yet have to post to the Minister, some gross eraser-bits from having erased in my journal; oh well, let's just say it doesn't look as beautiful as your space, so I'd rather gaze at yours for a while. Have a great weekend, dear Kendalee; sunshine or not ...
