I spent most of this past weekend in Wales, celebrating the Birthday of a friend with a group of others, eating and drinking well (and a lot!), and laughing (a lot!). There was even a little music-making and singing at one point... The clocks went back for daylight-saving, which is not great because it heralds the start of winter proper, but what's not to like about an extra hour of sleep after a late night out?
And then yesterday I met up with another friend and we enjoyed a girly spa day together, another shared Birthday gift. This included several definitely superficial but oh-so relaxing face and body treatments, a delicious lunch, and the opportunity to just hang out, chat in that spiraling way that conversation tends to be with someone close, and to reconnect with ourselves and each other. A real treat!
I was so excited about heading out on Saturday that I left my camera behind, which is a little infuriating 'cause there were many things that were worthy of capturing. However, being more in the moment is one of the things I am trying to be better at, so I suspect this was the universe's way of reminding me that sometimes it's good to just experience the thing without worrying about recording the thing. And it was good, the way I think weekends are supposed to be... Superficial yes, but also not so much.
I hope you had a lovely one too!

Superficial is good...but leaving behind your camera! DANG! I would have loved to have seen a couple of shots of Wales- My Abe Lincoln side of the family originated from Wales- then moved to Glouchester and then off to America and a little log cabin...I intend to go there one day- Wales, I mean.Next time you go - if you forget your camera pick up a paper one. It's a hassel and the quality is marginal but better than nothing at all, memories on paper! Just in case ...old age tends to muck up memory, Just ask me I KNOW first hand!
oh..me too i'm sorry you forgot your camera!
I would have loved to see some pictures of your superficial week end which my dear sounds fab!!
this afternoon, i grabbed a dvd at the shop and told a friend : "well, you know, today, i feel like watching something superficial" To which she said : "yeah, superficial is nice sometimes!". so is it because it's monday that we feel superficial ?
actually i titled my post today , the lightness of being on a monday..
About being profound, I read your previous post to which i so wanted to react. I also read the linked posts you mentioned. They made me ponder quite a lot actually about the concept of honesty and nice-nicey. When i started my blog, i meant to promote my stationary work but then i felt like talking about my boyfriend because he's the person who inspires most, and then Granada because i love this city. But i feel i do at times self-censure me. For instance, i'm quite passionate about the sequels of colonialism, racism, the 3rd world debt and then I think : no, wait i can't talk about these topics on my blog ! actually why not ?
But you see, it's not a matter of honesty but rather of spontaneity. As for the nice-nicey thing : what can we say ? Doesn't everyone like seeing nice things, even if the global stockmarkets crash ?
I'm so sorry to leave you this way too long comment but the truth is, there would be a lot to comment on that issue !
Is it really an issue though ?
Oh and btw, i liked what Anairam wrote about it and your answer to her comment.
"wherever you are, be there fully." this saying is pasted onto my wall above my desk as a gentle reminder to be in the moment always.
Oh, that sounds like a lovely superficial weekend! Lovely to spoil oneself and even better if you have friends with you. (PS I liked your reply on my comment earlier - the Beauty of Blogworld being that we can all do our own thing... I think a blog is as big a sliver - or slice! - of oneself as one wants it to be)
A great weekend! I know that crisis feeling of having left the camera behind!
It's a good excuse to redo the weekend again sometime soon! With the camera!
linda sue - i know!!! how stupid of me. have no fear, I visit wales quite often and next time i'm there i will take lots of pictures for you. good idea about the disposable camera though :)
m.c.i.s - i agree lala, superficial is sometimes just right! :) please don't apologise for long comments, i love it when people comment, however short or long! i think your blog is great and as i said, i think only you should decide what is right or wrong to post there. that's the wonder of blogging!
claire - wise words! and good to have them where they serve as a constant and gentle reminder.
anairam - definitely one of the very best ways to spend time!! :)
freshly found - great idea denise! there was literally a moment of panic when i realised i'd left my camera but i'll happily revisit that weekend...
