Welcome! I'm so delighted you could make it!
What a befittingly beautiful day we've been granted for our Midsummer's Picnic. The sun is set to shine and no rain is forecast - perfect picnic weather. And we have an extra reason to celebrate too - check out the Peace Picnic that's happening here in celebration of a very special Birthday...
Happy, happy Birthday week Miz S!!!
I hope Anairam and Denise, visiting from the Southern Hemisphere's winter, will really soak in the summer's day (although, in fairness some of my best ever picnics have had nothing to do with good weather!) Still, I'm very glad to see the sunshine and I hope you are too? It's not too hot, just warm enough.
Let me pour you a glass of champers (thank you Nen, we love bubbles!) or if you prefer, a glass of Lenore's yummy grape juice, chosen specially to match my purple nail polish (that girl has style!).
And let's find you a seat on the picnic blanket... Would you prefer a sunny spot or a tree and parasol shady spot? Plop yourself down and get comfy...
I think you know everyone here?
There are plenty of nibbles and I can't wait to try your favourite recipe. Teresa bought potatoes fresh from her Dad's garden and people have arrived with all sorts of scrumptious goodies! We won't go hungry that's for sure. If you feel peckish, please do help yourself to one of my summery favourites - fresh pea, mint and chili fritata - cooked on site by our lovely chef, Jamie Oliver, and served with summer green salads and some crusty bread (thank you Muzel!). This fritata is delicious cold too and simple enough that even an inept cook like me can manage it, but I couldn't resist having Jamie come along to prepare it for us, he's such a sweetie.
There are Nen's strawberries and cream, Linda Sue's poppyseed cake, Robyn's koeksister's (a South African speciality!) and Sandy's blueberry almond coffee cake for afters... I might have to sample a little of each! The anteaters bought cherry pie but only to attract the ants, 'cause that's their idea of picnic food, so the pie's for us too!
You are all looking so lovely and summery and I'm enjoying being able to walk barefoot in the grass with Heather. I love a pretty picnic dress and I was so thrilled to have the excuse to buy this one for the occasion - it's soft and floaty and those big orange and purple flowers are a bit reminiscent of the romantic 70s, don't you think?

Everyone's brought a beautiful flower, which we'll pop into that big vase I brought along, so that we can enjoy the bouquet together. I see that Lisa is wearing some in her hair too... Gorgeous!
Mine's the purple dahlia. For a long time I didn't really like dahlias (for many of the same reasons marigolds and I didn't get along for a while) but they have grown on me over the years, and in different contexts, and now I love them! Look at this riot of colour and tell me, how can one resist?! They epitomise summery abundance.
When you leave at the end of your visit, how ever long or short it is, please take home with you a different flower to the one you brought... As a reminder of the time we've spent together.
The more energetic amongst you might like to play a game of boules or with a frisbee? You'll forgive me if I just lie here in the shade and cheer you on, won't you? Too relaxed and lazy too move.
For those who don't need to rush off, when it starts to cool down and get darker, we'll light citronella scented candles to keep the bugs away and a bonfire to mesmerise and keep us warm while we chat and stare into the flames. Perhaps someone has a musical instrument, or sings? If not, we'll just enjoy the sound of the night and the gentle hum of kindred spirits in tune. We'll wrap ourselves in light silk and cashmere, lie back, and watch the stars come out...
A perfect end to a perfect day.
All the better 'cause Claire and Sarah and Kamana and Aimee and Shell and Heidi and Beverly accepted my invitation too, and because others might just drop by to hang out with us for a while. I LOVE that. Who could ask for better company? Not me!
Thank you so much for coming dear friends!
Same time next year?
♥
P.S. I'll post some more pictures from the day as soon as I have a chance to download them :) In the meantime, please enjoy and credit the Flickr loveliness above here.

Oooo - I can't wait! I just made some gazpacho, picked some flowers and will join you as soon as the clock strikes midnight (my time!)
Lovely lovely! I am wearing a vintage sequined top. I know it's not at all picnicy, but this seems like the perfect time and place to be a little eccentric and fun! There's a pic of it on my blog today!
that is such a dreamy dress! and having jamie cook for us while we sit around and enjoy the day out? perfect!
Ooops I forgot about the flower and the food! I'll bring a protea and perhaps I should see how we could all handle a good buuny chow!
Oh fantastic! What is a picnic without bubbly, hey? I am actually posting a picture on my blog of what I'm wearing, the flower I am adding to your bouquet, and the salad I've prepared! Just give me a little while, and in the meantime, leave a little of the frittata and a cupcake for me, I'll be back just now!!
Can I crash your party even though I forgot to RSVP?! I'd be happy to get a game of boule started! You look beautiful in that dress by the way!
Kendalee I know that you didn't mind that I crashed the picnic. And you were so wonderful and hospitable even though I only brought a couple of teabags.
What a dreamy day. I loved it.
See how having you think of me and be with me is such a treat and how it helps me in my day.
Love Renee xoxo
a perfect getaway amidst the madness...
Really love your dress, it looks so cool and airy.
I finally posted my picnic contributions. It takes me a long time to navigate the placement of the photos with the HTML codes.
This was a great idea. Thanks for inviting everyone along.
This is so much fun! Thank you so much for being such a lovely host! And thanks for the birthday wishes as well!!
I hope your day is sunny and summery all day long!
this was so clever - and a wonderful picnic! i've brought a bottle of pinot grigio and some chocolate covered strawberries :)
This is the most beautiful picnic with the most precious of women! I love it!
(I may not be able to post any pics in time (So busy and away from the house today on business), but I am enjoying seeing the beauty everyone is sharing! (Although I did post some picks of a bowl of all of your names in the grass, coincidentally, kinda picnicy?).
Your picnic is just delightful Great idea Kendalee!
Sending hugs!

Wonderful way to spend the day. Thank you! I have a fire going and some Marshmallows to toast if anyone would like to partake in a little sweet-treat.xxoo
Blissful day in the sun! The fresh air is making me sleepy so I'm going to take to my hamoc for 40 winks and then I'll be as good as new for the rest of the festivities.
I finally made it!I hope you are not all dying of thirst waiting for the champagne!Enjoy!
What a lovely idea!
Hi Kendalee, I made it! This picnic is such fun! I love your dress and it is such a treat having Jamie to cook for us.
I love dahlias too-they are such unbelieveable colours. I grew some magenta coloured ones once that were just so bright. Sadly they make a great picnic for the snails though so they don't last long in my garden!
I have enjoyed meeting the other guests if I hadn't already, or seeing old friends if I had.
Can't wait to light the bonfire!

kendalee...that purple mosaic is fantastic! and that dress is fabulous.....i love summer so much.
Sorry forgot to say....YES for next year. I would love to join you....and I LOVE that dress!!! x o
WELL! You certainly know a thing or two about picnics! AND how to dress...sorry the lizards mistook you for a delicious butterfly...I am sure that must have been uncomfortable.Sticky lizard licks, I mean- not the dress itself.
Thank you for the fun...now what am I to do with all of this pinched from cyberspace poppyseed cake? It's hardly been touched!
Kendalee, maybe you could teach me how to list someone's name like you did here and it take you to their blog. I'm new at this stuff. Thanks!!
Kenda,
My you are up late (3:30) - is the party still going and the bonfire still burning? Yes, a bit of bubbly and dancing is in order. What wonderful food and company - thank you for a beautiful day!
Needed to thank you once again for the inspiration. Just posted new pix from the peace picnic at the park. We had the best time!!
