Getting in the mood...

...for Christmas. Finally.

It struck me with force yesterday that it's a fortnight to Christmas. Two short weeks.  Now two shorts weeks minus one day.

And I have yet to do anything substantial to prepare for it.

I've bought one or two prezzies, and have started to make one or two (but still have about a dozen to sort out).  I've bought and made some cards and have even managed to write a few (but have yet to post them). I haven't given any thought at all to menus and decorations (although I am not feeding the five thousand or inviting the Queen around to turn on the lights).

But it's too soon.

I am not ready.

The thing is that I'm not the most well prepared of people even in a good year but this degree of it-snuck-up-on-me-ness is overwhelming and feels quite uncomfortable. Not to mention that it's the build up to Christmas that I really enjoy so I like to make it last for longer than two weeks.

Oh well, two weeks is better than none. And I'm planning - at the very least - to decorate a tree and my apartment this weekend. Next to wrapping the gifts (which I always set an evening, some mulled wine, and a pile of mince pies aside for) decorating the tree is one of my very favourite things to do.

To get myself in the mood, I had a look back on my photographs from last year.  I went a little wild with colour and there were a few raised eyebrows at the butterfly theme (granted, not the most obviously Christmassy motif) but I liked it.  In June this year I had some vague notion that I might go with a monochrome scheme this time but as I've allowed myself to arrive at two weeks before the day and haven't done anything to prepare for that, I'll probably recycle last year's scheme. Recycling is good.

I hope your preparations are coming along well... and that you're in the mood. What's your favourite pre-Christmas thing to do?

Two weeks!

Happy Friday!

Well, I am making the last of my tree decorations and I've got most of my gifts. (Must still wrap though.)But the problem about starting too early is that I now feel all Christmassed out! I still want to bake some biscuits but I'm really tired - and the 2nd proofs have arrived - a stack of about 8cm!! I love your colourful tree! The butterflies especially - I think they are very festive and pretty. (Wasn't it Woody Allen who decorated their Christmas trees with black plastic bats one year?)

I knowwww, hasn't it just zoomed? I am not panicking this year as this year I'm adhering to the rule of one gift per person and only for people that are immediate to me. I'm having mulled wine tonight, it is my absolute fave. In fact, I don't think I could get into the xmas spirit without it! It is also supposed to snow tonight and we got our xmas tree last night, so it seems everything is lining itself out!

... can i have some mince pie as well? it's been 2 years since i had a mince pie. My bf is thinking of bringing a frozen one when we meet up for holiday so I could scarf one down!

doing shopping throughout the year and then wrapping them and making cards just before we leave for the summer holidays in langebaan on the west coast. no rushing. no last minute. no shopping malls. i aim to be quiet...

the tree decorations are just so pretty!

Oh, I LOVE the butterfly theme! And I so sympathize with the sneaking up of Christmas. And although I can legitimately blame my new job for lack of time I had LOADS of it before I started working again and did I make any use of that time? Nope, of course not. Thus the worst is always my bad conscience at having planned so badly, yet again. Ugh. Oh well, I love the built up to Christmas as well and now we are down to 10 days and what the heck, I will ENJOY them!

Fondly,
Kerstin
